Affiliate Program

It's a liftoff for the ArisHost Affiliate Program, and it looks like it's going to be another great addition to the already powered-up services at ArisHost! According to a company executive, "Our business has greatly expanded since we started. And now we want to bring our customers in, and give them a bigger role in our growth. Become our business partners, you could say.... This new program gives them the opportunity to earn a lot of money just by referring their friends to ArisHost."

The new Affiliate Program gives members $5 for every signup they refer. They just have to register (http://affiliate.arishost.com) to get their affiliate URL. This URL links to the ArisHost signup page, and every signup from there will credit to their affiliate account.

That's how easy it can be with ArisHost. Affiliates don't even need to have websites or a domain account with ArisHost. Absolutely anyone and everyone can join as an affiliate. Of course, it would help to have a website where they can promote the program through banners and links, or first hand experience with the ArisHost enhanced services.

"We promise good and gainful times ahead with ArisHost."

Market Profile: Kids (The Third in a Series)

If recent studies are to be believed, then pretty soon, today's Internet-savvy kids will take over the web. Surveys show that with around 44 million US homes having Internet access, 4 out of 5 kids are online. Couple this with the recent wiring up of schools, the reach of the net amongst elementary and high school children spans across gender, ethnic group and family income. These kids may not have take-home incomes and are still dependent on adults, but with 74% of parents who buy online giving them clout in purchasing decisions, they are a target market that should not be trifled with.

Estimates say that by 2005, almost 44 million children will be online. The e-commerce spending of this age group is expected to greatly increase by then. At present, spending has already reached 13% of their total annual spending of $164 Billion. Major recipients of this multi-billion cash-out are kid-focused dotcoms, such as Nickelodeon Online, and those that target both parent and child, such as Target.com, JCPenney.com and LLBean.com. On their own, kids spend on clothes, pre-recorded music, movie tickets and books online.

Although they seem to be an obvious e-commerce target, the tricky part is getting kids to buy, or at least encouraging online traffic from their age bracket. Their online activities include email (54%), general navigation (37%), homework (37%), games (30%) and chat (29%)--but it's not always as easy as giving them their perceived wants. As every parent may know, children's psyche is not that easily figured out, and "miscalculations" may keep their "24% of the US population" mass away.

This is a fairly interesting and helpful site-and definitely lives up to its name. At first, it may seem disappointing, like it was another one of those marketing websites that won't give you anything unless you pay. The homepage for unregistered visitors leaves much to be desired, with the majority of its articles short of details and 'real' information. Only one major article is made available, and the rest of the "readable" materials are external links. But then you find out that registration is free (or costs only a few spams in the mail)--that's when you get all the meaty stuff: relevant market studies, opinion articles by recognized personalities in Internet research and more!

The ArisHost site of the week: www.aeroscribe.com

Master switch on, Fuel Pump, prime, CLEAR, start. The Airplane began humming contentedly. We waddled slowly down the lane to the highway, where the blasts of other planes clearing their throats loosened bits of rock and left the surface rough. The tires rumbled, and then it was our turn: Strobes on, transponder on. The Airplane said, "Growl - I'm ready NOW!"

- from The Airplane Laughed by Bill Howard

Now who would have thought that pilots could be great with the written word, as well? Aeroscribe.com is a wonderful site for the content-hungry, with its simple user interface, and rich and very interesting write-ups. The web site is full of literary articles and logs by anyone and everyone who've stepped on a plane, be it as pilot or passenger, and have been inspired by these experiences. Check it out!

How can you tell if your ISP is bad? Off the web, this is the top 10 give-away.

  1. Their company logo: two tin cans and a length of string.
  2. You check out their address, and it's a phone booth containing a Compaq portable and an acoustic coupler.
  3. Their chief technical officer lives in a 10-foot-by-7-foot shack in the woods.
  4. Their proud boast: "We've been on the Internet since it was CB radio."
  5. Their promo materials use the words "information" and "superhighway" in the same sentence.
  6. You order an SLIP/PPP connection, email, and 2MB of server space for your personal Web site, and the voice on the other end of the phone asks, "Would you like fries with that?"
  7. "As seen in Better Business Bureau special reports."
  8. "Access speeds up to 9,600 BPS in most areas."
  9. They hawk both domain names and Rolexes on street corners.
  10. They charge by the word.

AH - Q
I'm a woman-writer and I have been working on a website for women for a long time. My problem is: I don't get much hits, not even from the women I target as market. Is there anything I can do about this?

-- Concerned Mom
Irvine, CA

According to Dr. A:
Ma'am, I'm sorry to say that there is no way short of buying Access Guards for your child. These software installations make sure that sites that have unsuitable content cannot be accessed from your computer. But then again, you can also configure your browsers to filter sites that you don't approve of. Just click on "Tools" and then select "Internet Options." Go to the "Security" tab, select "Sites" and then add the URLs of websites you want filtered. From there, just configure the settings to Custom Level.

AH- Tips
To all e-biz marketers out there, kids make a big difference when you target that market! Studies show that children are often brought into the decision-making process for purchases by parents. With the majority of US homes having online access, this bit of info may spell increased profits and e-commerce success.
