The Little Known Fact About ArisHost

That the ArisHost servers are collocated at UUNET/WorldCom's advanced data center in Ashburn, VA is something that many should know. This is a little known fact that experts argue is a big deal. Collocation in the facilities of UUNET/WorldCom means that ArisHost clients have a registrar and web host that maintain a state-of-the-art Network Operations Center (NOC), capable of providing robust and reliable services and support.

ArisHost's Operations Center has a 5 mbps uplink capability that is currently only using 25% of capacity. Even so, the company is ready and able to upgrade anytime. ArisHost has a full 1000 mbps backbone system that enables an even data flow throughout its network. This system is fully redundant and completely load balanced across four web servers. This means that the system is available, with very nearly 100% uptime. Again, ArisHost can easily upgrade when the need arises. Servers run on a Solaris for Intel platform, which assures massive and reactive scalability, lower downtime, secure and predictable operations, manageability, and high-level application performance.

Now that's a major little known fact that moves ArisHost's fast, reliable and safe domain registration and web hosting services.

Holiday Ushers

The yearend doesn't only usher in holiday spending and gift giving. 'Tis also the season for new developments, and yes, new toys. Personalization and increased efficiency are the common denominators; and these holiday ushers seem to be mere glimpses of things to come in the field of technology.

Handheld models (Sony) now go with attachable Memory Sticks and digital camera that enable disk space eating tasks, such as devising a picture phone book, and emailing and editing photos. Another product update is the soon-to-be-launched "super pure color" 15-inch LCD television (Hitachi), which could both be a television and PC monitor. This is supposed to provide superior screen display, and is capable of progressive scan. Hewlett-Packard is also set to release data storage devices with instant recovery management systems that are touted to increase uptime and optimize data center applications. Likewise, wireless and anytime Internet access is gaining popularity through Wayport and MobileStar; and there is the yet-to-be-released iTV, which will allow interactive television viewing.

However, the bigger excitement comes in DNA research, which has struggled for application in technology. There is Biowell Technology's DNA ID that lets manufacturers combat fake credit cards and mass-produced products by imbedding distinctive DNA chips in their products. DNA ID is already being used by some organizations, and is expected to gain massive application soon. These IDs are just the start. DNA may yet take over where silicon now reigns with all its possibilities.

The ArisHost site of the week: www.pabloprada.com

It's always amazing how art can tell so much about a person. That's the general feeling one gets when they view a site, such as pabloprada.com. This graphic design website seems so personal that way, with graphics and artwork that date back from school (the era of MS Paint 3.1) and university days, to work-related outputs that stay true to the artist's style. Of course, aside from curiosity of the personal, pabloprada.com also offers to be a visually arresting feast. Kudos to Pablo Prada!

Microsoft bashing time again! Just for laughs… and off the web, using an Internet Explorer browser, running on a Microsoft 98 OS.

What if Microsoft made cars?

  1. A particular model year of car wouldn't be available until AFTER that year, instead of before.
  2. Every time they repainted the lines on the road, you'd have to buy a new car.
  3. Occasionally your car would just die for no reason, you'd have to restart it. For some strange reason, you would just accept this.
  4. You could only have one person at a time in your car, unless you bought a car '95 or a car NT, but then you'd have to buy more seats.
  5. Sun Motorsystems would make a car that was solar powered, twice as reliable, 5 times as fast, but only ran on 5% of the roads.
  6. The oil, alternator, gas, engine warning lights would be replaced with a single "General Car Fault" warning light.
  7. People would get excited about the "new" features in Microsoft cars, completely forgetting that they had been available in other brands for years.
  8. We'd all have to switch to Microsoft Gas (tm).
  9. New seats will force everyone to have the same size butt.
  10. Ford, General Motors and Chrysler would all be complaining because Microsoft was putting a radio in all its models.

Question of the Week
There are always new PC products coming out. Which should I get?

-- D. N.
Kitty Hawk, NC

Aristia Says
You should keep in mind what you need a computer for. If you just use your PC for word processing, then you probably don't need to upgrade to the latest model. But, as you may know, the common PC use is a mix of simple word and data processing, game playing, and Internet surfing and downloading. You would need considerable disk space to perform these tasks, as well as a good monitor and a reliable CPU.

A Tip from Aristia
There are tons of compatibles in the market, offering similar performance at a cheaper price. You can always opt to get them but be wary of their differing quality. Some do deliver the goods and perform as well as their branded counterparts, while others would just conk out after some use.
