A Quarter of New TLDs
Almost a quarter ago, ArisHost had begun offering newly-released TLDs: .biz, .info, .tv, and .cc. The registrar's launch had been low-key, with hardly any noticeable change in the website except for more TLD dropdown choices. Still, without the fanfare, the new domain extensions had gained wide acceptance. Months after, new TLD signups over at ArisHost had consistently increased, with no bumps and stops in sight.
The new TLDs are intended for specialized organizations that want domain extensions specific to their goals or lines of business. The .bizs and .infos seem to be more popular, with the .tvs and .ccs catching up.
ArisHost's offer of new TLDs is meant to not only curb domain infringement and promote competitiveness; it also makes these otherwise more pricey domain extensions available at lower costs.

The Deal with the New TLDs
The launching of new Top Level Domains (TLDs) around a quarter ago had not been easy. The release brought with it issues, like ensuring the stability of the Internet despite the technical risks of having additional domain extensions. Another major consideration was rampant cybersquatting, which was an online form of name infringement. Patented product and company names, and even catch phrases, had been targets of "enterprising" webbies who registered sound-alike domains with the intent to lure online traffic from legitimate trademark owners to their websites. Launching new domain extensions meant companies were to once again scamper to beat these cyber-rascals. ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the regulatory body for these matters, had even scheduled a Sunrise Period, when trademark domain names can be registered by their companies, just so they get to protect their names.
However, such issues had not held back applications for more TLDs-like the "curiously-awaited" .xxx and .shop-setting up ICANN for more work. This early, there had already been disputes in .union, a suggested chartered TLD for corporate unions. These snags would probably cause some delay, but it's still safe to expect a broadening World Wide Web soon.

The regulation of the Internet falls solely on ICANN; and given such powerful function, it is rightfully so that there is a website such as icannwatch.org. The site is a great resource for updates on domain registration matters, and the goings-on within ICANN regarding managing the Internet. There are articles, and discussion threads on relevant registrar issues, as well as FAQs and introductory reads about ICANN. This is a must visit site, especially for those interested in the progress of the Internet.
