Extra Holiday Bandwidth
'Tis the season for gift-giving and that definitely includes ArisHost!
In time for Christmas, Team ArisHost has decided to offer extra monthly bandwidth to all accounts registered, beginning December 20 till the end of month. This additional 250 Megs is expected to make a great deal of difference, especially for those with seasonal heavy traffic sites. With the Internet expectedly swamped during Christmas, the extra bandwidth will let ArisHost websites accommodate more visitors.
According to a representative of ArisHost, "December registrants will get all this on top of the benefits that they already enjoy for free when they sign up. It's just our way of ushering in the season, and signaling the start of exciting promotions over at ArisHost. There are more freebies to come next year so watch out for those!"

The Cookie Crumbles
To cookie or not goes beyond the dilemma of personalizing Internet access or maintaining privacy. There are a lot of benefits in having cookies that are put aside when one focuses on the idea of these miniscule "databases" carrying personal information. Often, these are not as intrusive as they sound. Cookies may contain information, such as one's name, favorite links or annual income (as declared in many online signups), and direct marketing campaigns towards one's way-but that's about the most intrusion they can do. This merely strikes a balance for the advantages of having an Internet that's more personal, and seemingly tailor-fit to user interests. It's sort of a monitoring of user activities: to some degree, for the benefit of webmasters, so they could boost their marketing vantage; but mostly for users, so their favorite websites would "know" them on their next visits. This type of user tracking has always been around, although through the less controversial server log files. These logs monitor each request and the sources of these requests. A major difference with log files is that users are identified by their machines and not as individuals.
The bigger issue is whether cookies can protect your information. This holds especially important for some cookies that carry user passwords and other private records, which need to be encrypted to avoid malicious "attacks." There are certain cases when a user can't be sure about the security of these records-an example being, while using public computers. Webmasters and programmers should practice some sensitivity in deploying cookies. On the same note, anyone who goes online should know a little bit about these "unseen" tools that make their Internet experience so great. Their security depends on it.

A lot has been said for and against spam and cookies, but there hasn't been much done in response to the different clamors regarding this issue. There are proposal being deliberated upon by governing bodies, but none has been finalized. Junkbusters.com, in a way, takes matters in its own hands. The site has a slew of tips and tactics in fighting against this online "intrusion of privacy," and even offers up free downloads of software that can eliminate unwanted spam and cookies.

The ArisHost site of the week:
www.jcsaviorproductions.com
There are a lot of eCommerce sites with ArisHost yet only a few stand out. Jcsaviorproductions.com is one such website-impressive in its story and the creative talent it showcases. Jcsaviorproductions.com is Joshua Weitzman's website, his portfolio online. His work started out in a church project that expanded through the church's ministries. His website is a showroom of these works, Flash sites with mostly religion-oriented content-remarkable even to those not looking for Joshua's services. Amazing and definitely worth a look-see!

Here's an easy game to play. Here's an easy thing to say:
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report!
If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
And your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
Then your situation's hopeless, and your system's gonna crash!
You can't say this?
What a shame sir!
We'll find you
Another game sir:
If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
Says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel on another protocol,
That's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,
And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss
So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
Then you may as well reboot and exit with a bang,
'Cause as sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang!
When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,
And the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risk,
Then you have to cache your memory %26 you'll want to RAM your ROM.
Quickly turn off the computer (and be sure to tell your Mom)!

I have no knowledge at all when it comes to programming, although I could do some HTML coding. Can I still make my site an eCommerce site and sell some of my crafts? I make beanie babies on the side. -- Merryl
