New ISP Reseller Program from ArisHost
ArisHost officials have announced plans to launch an ISP Reseller program for the company’s clients. The program, which will allow those with ArisHost accounts to resell Internet connection services, is probably the first of its kind to be offered by a domain registrar.
As one official put it, That’s why we think our ISP Reseller program will work; it’s a new thing for a domain registration and web hosting company. As far as I know, no one in the field has come up with something like this yet. It fits the ArisHost thrust to a tee. We always want to provide our clients with comprehensive and innovative Internet services. We’re really looking forward to launching this project.
Details of the ISP Reseller program are available at the ArisHost News page. Click here to learn more.

A Domain by any other Name...
It might seem that the easiest part of putting up a web site is coming out with a name for it. But that’s the tricky part--it’s so deceptively easy. When things like customer recall and easy recognition start becoming factors, then it gets a bit difficult.
During the infantile stages of the Internet, people were rushing to get the most general names, like News.com and Auto.com, in an effort to effectively capture as much of the market as possible. But then they soon realized the disadvantages of these types of names. Leaders of the industry found that such names gave little room for development, and were not very good at sticking to the consumers’ minds. Almost-boring names are easily lost like needles in the domain name haystack.
So what’s a site owner to do?
Get someone seriously nuts to help you with the name. It’s a well-known fact that ridiculous names are easily recalled. (Ever hear of Yahoo! or Google?) This first principle falls under the “keep it simple” category--ridiculous names, but simple and with staying power. Avoid in-the-moment or trendy catch phrases, or fad words. Also, stay away from minimalist abbreviations, like a “U” to replace “you.” Names like these are almost always confused with other names, e.g. “straighttoyou.com” and “str82U.com.” Make sure your domain name gives you an identity that distinguishes you from other people’s domain names. Names with these characteristics are hard to forget.

For all their eagerness to, as they say, “tell it like it is,” journalists also mess up sometimes. Here are some actual headlines from actual newspapers that, well, tell it like it is a tad too much…

I’ve already thought of a pretty neat name for my website and would really like to use it. How will I know if the name is still available? And what if it’s already taken? -- Shannon M.
