Webalizer now available at ArisHost
Ever hear of the Webalizer? It's a fast and efficient web server log file analysis program. With it, site owners can get accurate information on the activities of their web pages. The Webalizer produces detailed usage reports in HTML format, and can be viewed using most standard browsers. It is reputedly very fast--on a Pentium 200Mhz computer, 10,000 records can be processed in one second.
Now that's good news for web site owners. But what's better is that it is now an added service feature at ArisHost. Interested ArisHost clients need to just contact the ArisHost's hostmaster through chat or e-mail. And for only $ 25, they can get their very own Webalizer installed and configured.

Go Fishin'!
Expert anglers agree that fishing is only one part fish. That is, a lot of other things go into it besides fooling a bass or trout with a stand-in insect. These guys ramble on about understanding the currents, specie idiosyncrasies, seeing patterns in nature, etc. Only thorough knowledge of these many factors gets the fisherman trophies and a tasty lunch.
Web developers can learn a lot from these fisherfolk. Being on the Internet means throwing your site into the ocean that is the web, and hoping people bite. But like we said earlier, fishing isn't just one part bait. Webmasters must consider many factors in the development and upkeep of their sites.
To succeed via the Information Superhighway, developers should understand and take care of the relationship between their web pages and the people who visit them. Yep, MARKETING.
In the next few issues, we'll be discussing some important points in developing and selling your web site:
I. Meta Tags
Meta tags are the "flares" of your site. It's important that you understand how to use them better.
II. Search Engines
Site visibility isn't assured by just submitting your page to search engines. Know how they work and learn to use them to your advantage.
III. Knowing Users
Gathering data on the people who visit your site helps you get a pulse on what they want. Satisfied customers are loyal ones.
IV. Media Content
Utilize the latest visual/graphic technology to get and maintain the interest of web surfers. Making sure you're seen isn't enough, give people something worth looking at.
V. Web Hosts
A crucial piece of the puzzle. You partially entrust your site's existence to your web host, so see to it that it can handle the responsibility.
Be sure to see the next AH! issue for the first part of the series, Meta Tags.

The ArisHost site of the week:
www.alltooflat.com
In the all-too-often all-too-boring world of computers, we must thank the digital gods for websites like alltooflat.com. This site busts gut, period. A cheese-based bible, a vegetable with personality, advice from a fish, scientist trading cards, wild geeks, plus a lot more. A blurb on the site's owners sums it up pretty much: " Who are you guys, and why do you have so much time on your hands?" They put their time to good use though, serving up a ton of laughs. The name? Just check out www.alltooflat.com to find out.
