Great Response to the ArisHost ISP Reseller Program

Team ArisHost wishes to thank members who have signed up with the ISP Reseller Program. Since its launch last month, the program has been getting positive responses and a number of webmasters have already signed up. The ISP Reseller Program allows those with ArisHost accounts to resell Internet connection services at their own rates. ISP accounts are sold to resellers in bulks of 4, for only $6.25 each per month.

Company officials were pleasantly surprised. As an officer put it, "We really weren't expecting this much reseller turnout, but we're thrilled. A big part of it is having been able to give our clients something totally new. That's what ArisHost is about anyway: innovation for our customers."

Details of the ArisHost ISP Reseller Program are on the ISP Reseller page.

V. "The Landed Gentry" : Web Hosts

Long ago, those who needed soil to till but had no land went to someone who had. And for a price, Mr. Landowner would allow them use of his piece of earth. Times have changed but to some extent, the practice of renting out space for commerce remains. The feudal lords of times past have now evolved into business people who own acres of virtual territory-- Web Hosts.

Finding a host that will suit your needs isn't at all complicated. One just has to determine which host serves him/her best. There are major points to be considered, and the first one is reliability. You need a host which doesn't bog down every 5 minutes, so ask about hardware, connections used and other security options. Find out if they have safeguards that cut downtime. After all, you do want your web site to be accessible, don't you?

Next thing is support accesibility. Almost every hosting firm offers technical support to some degree, but how good the support is remains a big question. You can play Private Eye and try contacting the support services of your prospective hosts. Check for response times, availability and overall efficiency. Does it take an Ice Age before they get back to you? Do they really know what they're talking about?

Other factors to look at are pricing and service features. Hosting companies can charge from below $5 to almost $100/month. Also, take note of the features offered by a web host (web space, email accounts, etc.) and assess if they're what you need. Go for hosts that offer optional services you think you might need later on.

"Well, why did the chicken cross the road?"

From the web, answers to this eternal question...

SADDAM HUSSEIN: This was an unprovoked act of rebellion and we were quite justified in dropping 50 tons of nerve gas on it.
FREUD: The fact that you are at all concerned that the chicken crossed the road reveals your underlying sexual insecurity.
GRANDPA: In my day, we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Someone told us that the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough for us.
COL. SANDERS: I missed one?
BILL GATES: I have just released the new Chicken Office 2000, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook.

Question of the Week
I've finally gotten to grips with the concept of web hosting. However, how a web site gets transferred to a web host and broadcast over the Internet is beyond me. Just how does this happen?

-- Daniel M.
Greensburg, LA

Aristia Says
Good question. It really is relatively simple. All that up- and down- loading you've been hearing about are just file transfers usually done with something called FTP or File Transfer Protocol. You use this tool to upload (transfer) your website files to a webhost who, in turn, makes it viewable on the Internet. Thanks Daniel!

A Tip from Aristia
When on the hunt for a prospective Web Host, hands-on research helps a lot. A lot of hosting companies offer free trial accounts -- take advantage of these offers. This gives you a great opportunity to get first hand knowledge of a web host's services and find out if they have what you need.
